History of Sturm Electric

As the fourth generation enters the electrical contracting business, we must step back and remember where the roots of the company started to see where we will be heading.

(1919) First Generation Begins - Joseph E. Sturm
Joseph E. Sturm started his career as an electrician working for his uncle under Kling Electric, Co. after which he worked as chief electrician at Seagram's Distillery and at Modern Electric as an electrician and estimator.
(1944) Sturm Electric, Inc. was established
After 25 years of experience, Joseph E. Sturm founded Sturm Electric, Inc. performing work in the residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
(1944) Second Generation Begins - Donald J. Sturm
After serving his country in World War II, one of Joseph's two sons, Donald J. Sturm joined the company starting the second generation in the electrical contracting industry.
(1951) Second Generation Grows - Gerald E. Sturm
After serving his country in the Korean War, Joseph's second son, Gerald E. Sturm joined the company.
(1962) Northern Kentucky Electric Authority (NKEA)
Donald was one of the founders of the Northern Kentucky Electric Authority, which he was chairman of in 1969 and 1970.

(1965) Donald J. Sturm Becomes President
Donald became the President working on estimating and project management while Gerald worked in the field. Joseph continued to play an active role in the organization working on special projects.
(1969) 50 Year Edison Award
Joseph received the 50 Year Edison Award from the Cincinnati Electrical Contractors Association.
(1970's) Third Generation Begins
During the 1970's, Donald's and Gerald's sons and daughters worked within the organization in different capacities.
(1980's) Sturm Electric, Inc. Closes Doors
Due to recessional struggles, Sturm Electric, Inc. closes its doors.
(1990) W. L. Sturm Electric Carries On Family Tradition - William (Bill) L. Sturm
William (Bill) L. Sturm re-established Sturm Electric, Inc. under W. L. Sturm Electric, Inc. beginning the third generation of leadership.
(1992) Third Generation Grows - John E. Sturm, PE
After graduation as an electrical engineer in 1981 from the University of Kentucky, working with Crouse-Hinds until 1983, earning his professional engineering License in 1986, and working for Turner Construction Co., John E. Sturm joined the organization.

(1998) Third Generation Grows - Donald J. Sturm, Jr.
After establishing himself as the leading distributor salesman for Richards Electric Supply from 1977 to 1998, Donald J. Sturm, Jr. joined the organization.
(2007) The Fourth Generation - Kevin Sturm
Graduating from Northern Kentucky University, Kevin joins the company and expands the foundation of the fourth generation.
(2010) Fourth Generation Grows - Brian Sturm
With a degree from Cincinnati State, Brian joins the company and expands the fourth generation.
(2011) Fourth Generation Grows - William (Bill) L. Sturm, Jr.
Graduating from Northern Kentucky University, Bill joins the company and further entrenches the foundation of the fourth generation and Sturm Electric's promise towards the future.
